Potable water tank lining applications
The right approach depends on the tank construction, the condition of the substrate and whether the work is part of a new build or a refurbishment programme.
Concrete water tanks
Seamless linings for reinforced concrete tanks, including floors, walls, returns, penetrations and other detailed areas. Substrate moisture, surface profile and existing defects need to be understood before a system is confirmed.
Steel drinking-water tanks
Protective systems for prepared steel tanks where corrosion control, adhesion and continuous immersion performance are central to the specification.
New tanks and refurbishment
Systems can be considered for newly constructed tanks or the refurbishment of existing tanks, subject to inspection, preparation requirements and compatibility with any remaining coating.
The lining must suit the complete tank
A potable-water approval is important, but it is only one part of selecting a lining. The full build-up must suit the substrate, immersion conditions, details and expected service environment.

Surface preparation and tank repairs
Long-term lining performance starts with the substrate. Preparation is reviewed as part of the system rather than treated as a separate afterthought.
Concrete preparation
Concrete may require cleaning, mechanical preparation, removal of weak or contaminated material, crack and void repairs, coving, moisture assessment and a compatible primer.
Steel preparation
Steel preparation may include removal of corrosion and failed coatings, abrasive preparation to the specified standard, treatment of welds and edges, cleaning and controlled priming.
Preparation by others
If preparation or repairs are completed by another contractor, clear responsibilities and an agreed inspection hold point are important. The prepared surface must be accepted before lining begins.
How we approach potable water tank projects

Project review
We review drawings, specifications, tank details, service conditions and the documentation required.
Access and work planning
Confined-space requirements, ventilation, lighting, equipment positioning and shutdown constraints are considered early.
Preparation and hold point
The substrate is prepared and assessed before the lining system proceeds.
Lining application
Primer, detailing and the nominated lining are installed within the product and project requirements.
Curing and return to service
Cure time, ventilation, inspection and any required flushing are allowed for before recommissioning.
Quality records and handover
Agreed application records, photographs, test results and completion documentation are compiled for handover.
Standards, certification and project documentation
We keep product compliance and project workmanship documentation clearly separated, so estimators, consultants and asset owners can see what each item demonstrates.
AS/NZS 4020:2018
Where required, we can propose lining options supported by testing for use in contact with drinking water under AS/NZS 4020:2018. Suitability remains subject to the exact product, colour, applied system, exposure and the conditions stated in the supporting documentation.
PS3 Producer Statement – Construction
A PS3 may be provided where it is required by the project and agreed within our scope. It records construction or application against the nominated documents; it does not replace product certification, design responsibility or substrate acceptance by others.
Quality checks
Project-specific checks may include substrate acceptance, ambient conditions, material batch records, applied-film thickness, photographs and spark or holiday testing where specified.
Inspection and test planning
For larger or specification-led work, hold points and records can be aligned with an agreed inspection and test plan before work starts.
