Tank, Bund & Containment Linings

Seamless protective lining systems for tanks, chemicals, wastewater and high-wear assets

LJ Solutions applies protective linings to concrete, steel and suitably designed reinforced substrates. We work with contractors, consultants and asset owners to match the lining system to the stored material, substrate condition and operating environment.

Liquid-tight systems selected around the asset and service conditions
Applications

Tank and containment lining applications

The correct lining depends on what the asset contains, how it is operated and cleaned, and the condition of the surface beneath it.

01

Potable water tank linings

Seamless lining systems for concrete and steel drinking-water tanks. Where required, system options supported by AS/NZS 4020:2018 testing can be considered for the project.

02

Commercial and industrial tanks

Protective linings for tanks and vessels exposed to water, process liquids and other service conditions. Selection considers the stored material, temperature, cleaning regime, movement and substrate.

03

Bunds and secondary containment

Liquid-tight lining systems around tanks, plant and chemical storage. Penetrations, plinths, junctions, drainage points and movement areas are included in the detailing review.

System selection

The lining must suit the real service conditions

A product name alone is not a complete lining specification. We review the asset, substrate and exposure before confirming the proposed build-up.

  • Stored liquid, chemicals and expected concentration
  • Operating temperature and continuous or occasional exposure
  • Cleaning products, wash-down pressure and maintenance regime
  • Concrete, steel, geofabric or another prepared substrate
  • Movement, penetrations, joints, corners and terminations
  • Existing coatings and the reason any previous system failed
Demanding environments

Chemical, abrasion and wastewater environments

High-build and elastomeric systems can protect assets exposed to aggressive liquids, repeated cleaning, impact and wet service.

Chemical-resistant linings

The appropriate system depends on the chemical, concentration, temperature, exposure time and whether contact is continuous, intermittent or the result of a spill.

Abrasion-resistant linings

Systems can be built for surfaces exposed to grit, sliding material, wash-down, impact and repeated wear. The preparation and lining build depend on the substrate and abrasion mechanism.

Water and wastewater

Protective linings for water-retaining structures, wastewater assets, channels, sumps and treatment areas exposed to immersion, contaminants and aggressive cleaning.

Specialised applications

Reinforced liners, process areas and refurbishment

Some projects need more than a coating applied directly to a conventional substrate. The complete build-up and termination details must be considered.

Liners over geofabric

Spray-applied liners can be installed over a suitably designed geofabric or reinforcing layer where a reinforced, seamless membrane is required. Fixing, support and termination details must suit the intended use.

Process areas

Seamless linings for food processing areas, plant rooms, wash bays, loading and transfer zones, treatment facilities and other wet or heavy-service environments.

Lining refurbishment

Some existing linings can be repaired or overcoated; others require removal. We assess adhesion, cracking, blistering, corrosion and the likely cause of failure before recommending the next step.

Project delivery

How we approach lining work

Reliable lining work is planned around preparation, detailing, environmental conditions and clear quality hold points.

Application review

We review drawings, specifications, the stored material, operating conditions and expected service life.

Access and work planning

Access, isolation, ventilation, equipment positioning and the available shutdown window are considered.

Preparation and repairs

The substrate is prepared and defects are repaired to suit the nominated system and agreed responsibilities.

Detailing and application

Junctions, penetrations and terminations are treated before the main lining is installed.

Inspection and testing

Agreed checks may include environmental conditions, thickness records and spark or holiday testing where specified.

Handover

Photographs, material records, test results and agreed completion documents are compiled for handover.

Compliance

Standards and project documentation

Product compliance, construction records and design responsibilities need to be clearly separated for commercial work.

AS/NZS 4020:2018 potable water systems

Where a lining will contact drinking water, we can propose system options supported by testing to AS/NZS 4020:2018. The supporting claim must apply to the exact product and system being installed.

PS3 Producer Statement – Construction

A PS3 may be supplied where required and agreed within our scope. It records completed construction or application work; it is project documentation, not a coating standard or a substitute for design responsibility.

Commercial project documentation

Depending on the project, records may include methodologies, product data, preparation requirements, inspection plans, batch and thickness records, photographs and repair information.

Inspection and test planning

For specification-led work, substrate acceptance, hold points, testing and handover records can be aligned with an agreed inspection and test plan before work starts.
