Roof Membranes
Polyurea roofing membranes
LJ Solutions provides seamless polyurea roofing membranes and internal gutter waterproofing across New Zealand. Our spray-applied membranes form a continuous waterproof layer across prepared surfaces and detailed junctions.
A seamless alternative to conventional roof membranes
Our polyurea roofing membranes offer an alternative to systems such as Butynol, EPDM rubber, TPO, torch-on bitumen and reinforced liquid-applied membranes such as Chevaline Dexx. The appropriate system depends on the roof construction, substrate and project specification.
Polyurea is applied in place to form a seamless spray applied membrane across the prepared roof surface and detailed junctions. It does not rely on the overlapping sheet seams used in sheet membrane systems. Roof edges, penetrations, outlets and movement joints are detailed as part of the complete waterproofing system.
A continuous membrane.
Generally 2–3 mm thick
Our polyurea roof membranes are generally applied at 2–3 mm thickness depending on specification. The final membrane build-up, primer and detailing are specified to suit the substrate and roof requirements.
Optional UV-resistant polyaspartic topcoat
An optional UV-resistant polyaspartic topcoat can be applied over the polyurea membrane. Topcoat selection and compatibility are confirmed as part of the system specification for the roof’s exposure and intended finish.
Polyurea membranes for internal gutters
LJ Solutions applies seamless polyurea membranes to internal gutters, forming a continuous waterproof lining along the gutter and around detailed junctions and outlets.
The spray applied membrane follows difficult shapes and unique detailing, including tight corners, changes in profile and complex junctions that can be challenging to waterproof with other membrane types.
We assess the gutter substrate, existing lining, falls, outlets and connections to the roof before specifying preparation and application. For existing gutters, the condition and compatibility of the lining determine whether it can be overcoated or needs removal and repair.
Roof preparation and waterproofing details
A reliable membrane starts with the surface beneath it. We assess the substrate, existing coatings, drainage, roof details and preparation requirements before specifying the work. For an existing membrane roof, compatibility and condition determine whether an overlay is suitable or removal and repairs are needed.
Planter boxes, warm roof systems and green roofs
Talk to LJ Solutions about polyurea waterproofing for planter boxes, warm roof systems and green roofs, also known as living roofs or roof gardens. We assess the membrane as part of the complete system, including insulation compatibility for warm roofs and drainage, membrane protection and root-barrier requirements for planted areas.
Roof membrane questions
Is polyurea an alternative to Butynol or torch-on roofing?
Yes. A specified polyurea roofing system can be an alternative to Butynol, torch-on and other roof membranes where it is suitable for the roof and substrate. System selection includes preparation, drainage and junction details.
Can you coat over an existing roof membrane?
We assess the existing membrane’s condition and compatibility first. Overlaying is only appropriate where the existing surface and the specified system support it; some roofs require removal or repairs before a new membrane is installed.
How thick is the membrane?
Generally 2–3 mm, with the final thickness and any topcoat determined by the project specification.
What to send us
Send us your location, approximate roof or gutter dimensions and photographs, along with any drawings or details of the existing membrane. Tell us about leaks, ponding water or previous repairs so we can discuss the right approach.
